Paying for a car service plan by direct debit is a good way to help consumers manage a budget, according to a marketing director.
Andy Green of Santander Consumer Finance suggested that service plans are becoming an "increasingly important" part of the "point of sale product mix" when consumers purchase a new or used vehicle, FleetDirectory.co.uk reports.
He explained that service plans that offer the option to breakdown payments into monthly instalments payable by direct debit are useful for people on a budget.
"For the customer, the service plan offers an easy way of budgeting for scheduled servicing costs that is tailored to their exact needs, which is especially attractive during the recession," said Mr Green.
According to Smartwaytopay.co.uk, nearly half of all bill payers in the UK prefer to use direct debit for regular and occasional bills.
The website noted that many firms offer a discount for customers who choose to pay via direct debit.
