The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has appointed Adam Phillips as the leader of the Financial Services Consumer Panel.

In his new role, Mr Phillips will get involved in the panel's targets of challenging the FSA on its regulatory policies.

Adair Turner, FSA chairman, was positive about the new recruit and welcomed his arrival in a statement.

"The Consumer Panel has a valuable role to play in ensuring that the FSA takes the consumer interest into account," he explained. "We are very pleased that Adam has agreed to bring his experience to this important role."

FSA workers deal with various issues on a daily basis - consumers can contact the organisation about subjects such as banking fraud and misapplied payments.

As a regulator, it aims to promote efficient, orderly and fair markets and help retail consumers achieve a fair deal. At the same time, it is focused on improving its business capability and effectiveness.
