Jonathan Williams, Director of Strategic Development, Experian Payments

Jonathan Williams is Director of Strategic Development for Experian Payments, the payment specialist division of Experian, the global information services company. He is responsible for identifying and developing initiatives across the Product, Marketing, Data and Development teams and engaging in dialogue with the media, the payments industry, partners and customers.  Spanning both technical and marketing disciplines, Jonathan focusses on the commercial opportunities created by market change, partnerships or technological developments and how these can be made beneficial to banks and their corporate customers.

Paul Smee, Chief Executive, Payments Council

In January 2005 Paul Smee joined APACS as Chief Executive and in March 2007 was appointed Chief Executive of the Payments Council. Paul started his working life as a civil servant in the Department of Trade and Industry where he worked from 1978 to 1988. In 1988 Paul moved on to the London Stock Exchange where he was Head of Government Relations and Speechwriter to the Chairman and Chief Executive. In 1994 he went to the Association of British Insurers as Head of Life Insurance and then moved to the Independent Television Commission where he was, for three years, Direct of Regions and Public Affairs. He became the Director General at the Association of Independent Financial Advisers in September 1999.

Managing Director of Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs),
Interim Managing Director CHAPS Clearing Company Limited (CHAPS)

Michael Chambers is an authority on automated payments and the banking industry.  As Managing Director of Bacs he has led unparalleled developments in enhancing the brand’s reputation, and increasing volume figures for both the Direct Debit and Direct Credit payment schemes.  Since his appointment in 2003, Michael had driven growth to achieve over 5.6 billion UK payments being made through the Bacs’ systems, equating to approximately £3.85 trillion.

In February 2010 Michael was also appointed Interim Managing Director of CHAPS alongside his existing position at Bacs.  This new role will see Michael contributing to a broader strategic review of CHAPS, and ensuring the continued development of the company and its CHAPS Sterling and Faster Payments products.

Under Michael’s leadership Bacs has witnessed a number of successful operational changes including, in 2003: the separation of the business into two completely separate entities, Voca (now VocaLink) and Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (BACS), as well as the introduction of Bacstel-IP, an innovative payment infrastructure giving UK corporates secure online access to Bacs payment services.

Previously, Michael held a number of strategic positions at Barclays Bank, including head of electronic solutions delivery, senior solutions delivery manager and head of funds control.  He then spent three decades in the bank’s money transfer unit to become the group’s payment products unit in 2002 with responsibility for a portfolio income in excess of £200 million.

As part of this role he delivered significant changes to processes and product propositions, led key strategic committees and steering groups for payments infrastructures and formulated the bank’s strategy on new payment mechanisms.

Michael has also held key roles at leading industry bodies including: Chairman of Bacs’ Scheme Management Committee; Director of CHAPS Clearing Company; Shareholder Representative of the European Banking Association and a Member of the European Payments Councils’ Business Requirements Working Group.

Oliver Brough is Sales Director for Experian Payments, the payment specialist division of Experian, the global information services company. He is responsible for the continued fast growth of Experian Payments by deepening our relationships with our 1,400 customers, acquiring new customers and building partnerships with key specialist technology and bank partners both in the core UK & Ireland whilst continuing to build our global revenues.  Oliver has lots of experience in understanding how our customers perceive and see value in Experian Payments products and services across all sectors, functional disciplines and specialisations in many different geographic locations.

Nick Ogden – Chairman and Chief Executive, The Voice Commerce Group 

As founder and CEO of The Voice Commerce Group, Nick is primarily responsible for the company’s overall corporate strategy and business development.

A serial entrepreneur Nick has consistently been at the forefront of innovation in technology since 1985. In 1993, he founded Multi Media Investments Limited, a technology research and development company that brought the Internet to the Channel Islands through Interactive Telephony Ltd. This led to the construction of Europe's first on-line store, Wine Warehouse, in October 1994 and the development of one of the first bank-endorsed e-commerce initiatives in the form of the UK’s first electronic shopping mall, ‘BarclaySquare’, in 1995.

In 1997 Nick founded WorldPay, which guarantees internet transactions worldwide, and led the company through its growth to over 270 employees with 20,000 merchants in 120 countries and processing transactions in excess of $2bn per annum. WorldPay was acquired by the Royal Bank of Scotland in 2002.

In 2003 Nick, together with several former colleagues from WorldPay, formed the Voice Commerce Group to develop systems which allow individuals to identify themselves using a voice signature.

In 2010, Nick is making headlines once again with his appointment of Mills & Reeve to support the launch of Cashflows® “The Business Bank” to reflect the Group’s expansion from the provision of payments processing to meeting the broader financial requirements of its growing business customer base.

Nick has been recognised by a number of industry awards including the UK Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Computer World Global IT Leaders award and more recently the ID People Awards 2009.

Harcus Copper - Senior Product Manager, Barclays

Harcus Copper is a Senior Product Manager at Barclays responsible for the International Payment, UK Same Day Payment, SEPA Credit Transfer and SWIFT Connectivity propositions for Corporate customers. He has been with Barclays for 20 years, 15 of which have been in Cash Management roles. Harcus led Barclays SEPA Credit Transfer programme, delivering a proposition for all Strategic Business Units in time for the launch of the service in January 2008. Recently he has accepted responsibility for developing Barclays strategic proposition for SWIFT Connectivity for Corporates and Non-Bank Financial Institutions.
